Constructability review depth
Greetings! I am planning a mid rise building and want to define the right technical depth for a constructability review during early design. Which disciplines should be reviewed together, and how early coordination can realistically reduce conflicts, delays, and change orders later?

When I faced a similar situation on a mid rise project, the key was defining a review scope that went beyond basic drawing checks. A proper approach to Constructability Review requires parallel analysis of architectural layouts, structural systems, and mechanical electrical plumbing routing, rather than reviewing each discipline in isolation. Early coordination allows identification of clearance conflicts, load path inconsistencies, and installation sequencing issues that are not visible in late stage documents. When these elements are reviewed together during schematic or early design development, it becomes possible to validate realistic construction methods, reduce rework during construction, and significantly limit downstream change orders and schedule disruption.
